Who We Are
The Dandelion Kind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on a simple idea: every animal deserves care and respect, no matter their background, species, or circumstances.
Founded by a shelter veterinarian with nearly 15 years experience in animal welfare and her partner, a longtime nonprofit professional, we’ve spent years working with animals and the people who love them—especially the ones most often overlooked.
Our mission is to provide care and advocacy for rescue animals and for the pets of unhoused people. No judgment.
Our board consists of caring and seasoned professionals, each bringing substantial expertise in areas such as nonprofit leadership, animal welfare advocacy, or work with underserved human populations.
Whether you're here to volunteer, donate, or simply learn more—we’re glad you found us. Together, we can grow something kind.
Dandelions are commonly reduced to a simple idea; it’s just a weed. It’s just a blemish, something to be removed because it doesn’t serve our purpose. However, this resilient little plant is both nutritional and medicinal. Ecologically, its deep tap root can play a powerful role in soil remediation. It acts as an important food source for many animals and insects, and if we allow ourselves to see it for what it is, a complex little flower, it adds beauty to the world around us.
Animals and humans alike also face the same kinds of harmful labels. Smart, resilient, vibrant beings are often overlooked simply because it has been determined they no longer fit into a curated idea of who they should be or what they can offer. Their value is determined not by who they are—but how we choose to see them or to use them. The difference between that dandelion being “just a weed” or a “complex and beautiful little flower” is just perspective.
At The Dandelion Kind, we believe in changing that perspective. When we drop the labels, we make space to see the intrinsic value in all things; plants, animals, the natural world, and ourselves—and that’s where change begins.
